British Esperanto Congress
Letchworth Garden City 2007 May 4-7
Congress Theme: Renewal
Is Esperanto a language of the past or of the future? Are journalists right to ask "Whatever happened to Esperanto?", or is the current quietness of the British movement just a temporary phenomenon? Was the president of the Esperanto Association of Britain right when he called the early Esperantists naive? If so, then are we naive? Is the British movement still attempting to further Esperanto as a second language for the world?
Is it inevitable that all membership associations are losing members? Is it even true? Is the disintegration of our federations structure inevitable, or is there something we can do about this? Are the local clubs inevitably destined to whither away, whilst a handful of active members are getting old and dieing out? If not, what should be the role of the Esperanto club of the future?
Or should we stop asking yes-no questions, and instead ask 'How?'
